Reader and fellow Jarhead T.S. Nunya and I have been discussing the health care bill in the comments of another post. I thought I would publish some “other fancy stuff”* that folks with more time on their hands than I have read in (or read into) the bill. I have looked at the bill here.
And most of the “other fancy stuff” below as reported in the following excerpts from an article at the Economic Policy Journal here looks right to me
Shock: Inside the Healthcare Bill
Following the mad recommendations of Peter Singer made in NYT’s Sunday magazine, it pays to take a look at what is actually in the healthcare bill.
It’s worse than you can possibly imagine. Somehow, it manages to be Singer on steroids. Who wrote this bill. It has Singer’s footprints all over it.
Peter Fleckstein (aka Fleckman) is reading it and has been posting on Twitter his findings. This is from his postings:
Page 22 of the bill MANDATES the Government will audit books of ALL EMPLOYERS that self insure.
More Control of private enterprise under threat of government force.
Page 30, Section 123 of the bill – THERE WILL BE A GOVT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits you get.
Silly American, you don’t need hip replacement surgery! Here’s a cane for you.
Page 50, Section 152 of the bill – healthcare will be provided to ALL non-US citizens, illegal or otherwise.
Why not? And there will be free gumdrops and rainbow-farting unicorns for everyone! This will be a worker’s paradise! And we’ll soak the rich bastards to pay for it all.
Page 58 of the bill says Government will have real-time access 2 individuals finances & a National ID Health Card will be issued.
Another “National ID card” – because the whole idea that your social security card was never to be used as an “identification number” worked so well! And they couldn’t get “REAL I.D.” passed so this is the next best thing. Good luck getting anything from a car loan to a college admission without one…
Page 59, lines 21-24 says Government will have direct access to your bank account for electronic funds transfer.
Has your bank ever screwed up an electronic transaction? Then you know how much of a hassle it is to get that corrected when you are a paying customer that they supposedly have an interest in satisfying. Now, imagine how you, a mere peon to the fed.gov, will be treated when the government accidentally double dips or drains your bank account some day. It’ll be like going to the DMV. Good luck getting your money back in time to make the rent or buy the groceries. Or ever.
Pages 84 and 85, Section 203 of the bill says Government mandates ALL benefit packages for private health care plans in the Exchange.
Because you are too stupid to enter into a private contract between private parties. The government must be there to hold your hand and make sure those eeeeeevil capitalist insurance companies aren’t taking advantage of you. That and they want to make sure no private plan will have better benefits than the government one. Can’t have competition you know, that would be….well that would be capitalistic…
PG 272, Section 1145 TREATMENT OF CERTAIN CANCER HOSPITALS – Cancer patients – welcome to rationing!
Shit, you’re dyin’ anyway – why not free up some of that good ole healthcare for someone who will be around a while to pay more taxes into the machine?
Pg 317, lines 13-20 PROHIBITION on ownership/investment. Government tells Doctors what/how much they can own.
Yeah, gotta nip that whole “entrepreneurial” thing in the bud…Can’t have mere mortal citizens of this country try to make a better life for themselves and trying to build something worth having by actually – you know – thinking and having ideas and taking risks and benefiting from their own initiatives.
And that’s just in the first 1/3 of the bill!
And even if you say “so what?” to all of that…I still fall back on this – The fed.gov has no Constitutional authority to be doing any of this…
