’bout GD time. Schlepping batteries is the most f’d up thing ever.

If you haven’t humped a battery, you haven’t really lived…

Bold prediction: It ain’t going to be an either/or proposition. I’ve read a few reviews of civilian versions of these solar units by long-distance hikers and they just aren’t that efficient. Also, the sun doesn’t always cooperate. And even if does, you still have to operate at night. So Marines won’t be able to just rely on just these solar units. They’ll be humping batteries too.

Perhaps they could throw in a pedal powered generator for recharging batteries. Maybe a wind turbine to be attached to the Mewss telescoping tower. The load never gets lighter.

Just remembered the officers at 1st Radio ordering Pipher to try schlepping the PRD-10 around the log area to see if it’s “man packable.” The result was predictable (and actually predicted by just about every enlisted man in battalion).

Heh. Me and henninger made pipher hump one of those plus antenna up one of those hills in the kahukus because we were the “senior” lance corporals.

I laughed so hard I teared up when I remember the story about Pipher crapping himself.
