Bold prediction: It ain’t going to be an either/or proposition. I’ve read a few reviews of civilian versions of these solar units by long-distance hikers and they just aren’t that efficient. Also, the sun doesn’t always cooperate. And even if does, you still have to operate at night. So Marines won’t be able to just rely on just these solar units. They’ll be humping batteries too.
Just remembered the officers at 1st Radio ordering Pipher to try schlepping the PRD-10 around the log area to see if it’s “man packable.” The result was predictable (and actually predicted by just about every enlisted man in battalion).
