Gainfully Employed

October 8, 2011

Back in the workforce.  It was a nice summer sleeping in, sitting by the pool drinking beer and smoking Padron 4000 maduros, but all good things must come to an end…

Mrs. Lowe got tired of waking me up so she could make the bed and having to make daily trips to the recycling center to cash in beer cans for grocery money.

The good news is I am back in the blogging business too.  The bad news is that, due to the requirements of my new job, I will only be posting once a week or so.  Mark your calendars.  I know you can’t wait…

Ted Kennedy has been sober for 632 days…

Why do they keep asking the question…

June 28, 2010

When they know what answer they will (always and consistently) get?

So the Supreme Court hands down the opinion today that the right to KEEP and BEAR arms as enumerated by the second amendment does not arbitrarily end because of a line on some map, and the news people ask the same tired old question:

The results so far?

Can they quit asking now?

Freed Somali pirates ‘probably died’ – Russian source

Ten suspected Somali pirates captured by the Russian navy last week may have perished after their release, a defence source in Moscow has told reporters.

Marines seized them during a dramatic operation to free a hijacked Russian oil tanker far from shore, killing an 11th suspect in the gun battle.

They were released in an inflatable boat without navigational equipment.

Within an hour, contact was lost with the boat’s radio beacon, the defence source said.

"It seems that they all died," the unnamed source was quoted as saying by Russia’s Interfax news agency.

Remember this Newsweek cover where Newsweek practically salivated over the prospect of Obama The Socialist ascending the throne?

Here’s a new one from them:

Orly?  Mebbe someone ought to tell all those millions of unemployed Americans so they can, you know, start spending all that money buying groceries and paying their mortgages.  Dumbasses.

I Can’t Believe It…

October 20, 2009

But I actually find myself admiring a main-stream media reporter.  An ABC reporter, no less:

From Jake Tapper’s (ABC’s Chief White House Correspondent) article today:

From this morning’s gaggle in White House press secretary Robert Gibbs’ office:

Tapper: It’s escaped none of our notice that the White House has decided in the last few weeks to declare one of our sister organizations “not a news organization” and to tell the rest of us not to treat them like a news organization. Can you explain why it’s appropriate for the White House to decide that a news organization is not one –

Gibbs: Jake, we render, we render an opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness that, the fairness of that coverage.

Tapper: But that’s a pretty sweeping declaration that they are “not a news organization.” How are they any different from, say –

Gibbs: ABC –

Tapper: ABC. MSNBC. Univision. I mean how are they any different?

Gibbs: You and I should watch sometime around 9 o’clock tonight. Or 5 o’clock this afternoon.

Tapper: I’m not talking about their opinion programming or issues you have with certain reports. I’m talking about saying thousands of individuals who work for a media organization, do not work for a “news organization” — why is that appropriate for the White House to say?

Gibbs: That’s our opinion.

Kudos to Tapper for actually asking and pressing the question…The arrogance of the White House press secretary surprises me not.  This is right out of the Socialist playbook.  Fix your opponent, marginalize them, demonize them, turn public opinion against them and from there it is a small distance to shutting them down and euthanizing them.

Blast From The Past

Read this brief excerpt from a news release…

Bush Considers Detaining Terror Suspects Indefinitely

The Wall Street Journal

Thursday, May 14, 2005

Bush is weighing plans to detain terror suspects on U.S. soil — indefinitely and without trial — as part of a plan to retool trials held for Guantanamo prisoners.

The proposal being floated with members of Congress is another indication of President Bush’s struggles to establish his counter-terrorism policies…

On Wednesday, the president reversed a recent administration decision to release photos showing purported abuse of prisoners at U.S. military facilities. Mr. Bush cited concern that releasing the pictures could endanger U.S. troops. Mr. Bush ordered government lawyers to pull back an earlier court filing promising to release hundreds of photos by month’s end as part a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union.

“Why” – the left screamed – “That’s horrible!”

Those people have rights!

You can’t hold them indefinitely – they deserve a trial!

You are violating the U.S. Constitution, the Geneva Convention and to sensitivities of Amnesty International!

Remember all that?  Can’t you just hear it all over again – all the evening news anchors wringing their hands at how “the rest of the world” will perceive this.  Remember reading on every front page how the will “judge America…”  How Bush was covering up, lying, violating the rules of war?

Now:  Change that by-line date to 2009, and everywhere you see the name “Bush” replace it with “Obama”

Better yet, go read the whole thing here: Obama Considers Detaining Terror Suspects Indefinitely

So let’s all sit back and wait for the left and the press (redundancy alert) to condemn, harass, and try Obama in the press for this.

(Crickets chirp).

You get the feeling there’s a lot more to this Presidenting thing than the ACORN community organizer from Chicago ever thought?

Lynyrd Skynyrd bassist ‘Ean’ Evans dead at 48

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Bassist Donald “Ean” Evans of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd has died after a battle with cancer.  Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said Evans died Wednesday at his home in eastern Mississippi. He was 48.

He replaced  Leon Wilkeson who survived the October 20, 1977 plane crash that claimed the lives of lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines as well as the road manager, pilot, and co-pilot.  Wilkeson died in 2001.

I posted in January about Billy Powell’s death.

Man, you know you are getting older when your musical heroes start dying…

College Student Shoots, Kills Home Invader

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — A group of college students said they are lucky to be alive and they’re thanking the quick-thinking of one of their own. Police said a fellow student shot and killed one of two masked me who burst into an apartment.

“Apparently, his intent was to rape and murder us all…”

And of course this made the 5 o’clock news, 6 o’clock news and 11 o’clock news in your town didn’t it?  Wait…what?  You mean it didn’t?  How much news coverage do you think it would have received if it went the other way?  Yeah,

Like Tam says, “I guess you only get to hear about it when the bad guys win. Makes you wonder just who the newsies were cheering for when they played cops-and-robbers as kids…”

Unc has a post on it too.
